Love Compounding | Negative Space Floral Shadow Series
September, 2025 | Acrylic on Canvas
36" x 60"
As the very first work of this series, Love Compounding sets the stage and launch point for the series, a piece steeped in exploration of color, texture, layering, composition, and themes of thought process, memory and emotion.
This abstract work centers on symbolic themes of growth and connection. A strong, alluring palette of light crimson pink and rich green with blue undertones, creates a visual dialogue between complementary forces. Repeated leaf forms shift in angle and scale, guiding the viewer’s eye in a zigzag rhythm across the surface. Layers of pigment and the movement of water produce varied texture, while a bold negative space encloses the composition, heightening the tension between positive and negative space.
Shadows of plant life rise from below the canvas and extend beyond its upper edge, suggesting expansiveness and immersion beyond the picture plane. The title refers to love that grows in a compounding way, building quickly and exponentially over time. Rooted in personal experience, the work reflects a relationship that is dynamic and colorful, formed by two contrasting yet complementary individuals, much like the chosen color pairing. Reflective and celebratory in tone, the piece leaves space for viewers to bring their own interpretation and lived experience to the work.
