Negative Space Floral Shadow Series

This abstract composition presents plant life through calming, simplified forms. The simple curves and lines create a grounded and solid structure that feels more predictable in its rhythm. The composition holds steady, allowing the subject to rest within a stable visual field.
A mossy and soft green earth tone lays beneath a flat, calming purple that introduces a quiet stillness to the work. Raised line work in a pale gray-purple gently wraps around the surrounding purple negative space, gently differing from the below purple while maintaining visual interest. The repetition of line and the balance between textured green and flat purples create a peaceful harmony. The combination feels both playful and subdued, drawing the viewer toward a sense of deep relaxation.
The title refers to the experience of sitting beneath shade in the height of summer, under a tree or canopy, stepping out of the heat into a cooler space. It reflects the slowed perception of time in those moments, when birdsong becomes clearer and the movement of air more noticeable as it moves over the skin. The work embodies the unique rest in summer’s shade, before jumping back into the summer sun.
