Negative Space Floral Shadow Series

11" x 14"
This abstract composition is the first of a paired work titled Sister Sister, and serves as a subtle self-portrait through the lens of being the elder of two daughters. The plant forms, composition, and line work quietly reference the complexities of that role, being a mentor, a role model, and at times the “third parent,” while navigating the shifting balance of authority and peerhood as siblings mature.
Cool, somber tones dominate the palette, with subtle variations in the purples that hint at nuance and personality, one cold and one warm. The shapes and lines of the plant forms suggest both physical and character traits, while the understated composition conveys layered emotions without overt and exposing narrative. The work communicates the quiet tensions, shared histories, and mirrored experiences between siblings, inviting viewers to recognize the delicate interplay of guidance, greif, and evolving relational roles.
