Negative Space Floral Shadow Series
October, 2025 | Acrylic on Canvas
20" x 20"
This abstract composition explores the relationship between two competing visual layers. A deep, clay-like red, chalky and sedimentary in presence, contrasts with vibrant blues that vary in value and opacity. The surface suggests an aerial view of water running and pooling, with fluid movement set against the solidity of red forms that push forward in the picture plane.
Water serves as the foundational layer, enriching the thematic tension between liquidity and sediment. Repetition, layering, and textural variation heighten the sense of movement, while the red advances against areas of negative space, creating a slightly more dominant shadowed presence within the composition.
The two-word title references this duality, “Red” and “River” operate as parallel forces, each pointing to a distinct material and visual experience within the work. Explorative in tone, the piece reflects an investigation into composition, texture, and color relationships, leaving room for viewer analysis and interpretation.
